Conditions of Entry

This year the Cambridge Society of Arts will be holding its annual members’ exhibition at the Cambridge Town Hall.  The grand opening is on Thursday 3rd September at 5.00 – 7.00pm then through Friday 4th September, Saturday 5th & Sunday 6th September from 9.30am – 4.30pm.

Members are invited to exhibit paintings.  We are accepting paintings that have been completed in recent years, but that have not been exhibited in Cambridge.  (Hanging in our Painting Place doesn’t count.)

Again, this year we are very happy to tell you that we are giving prizes out for the best in each category.  Category prizes will be announced at the opening ceremony on Thursday evening.

All artworks entered are eligible for the 3 People’s Choice Awards.  The entries are counted at the end of the exhibition and artists contacted on the Sunday evening.

The categories are:

  • Figurative,

  • Flora,

  • Fauna,

  • Landscape,

  • Abstract,

  • Still life,

  • 3D.

This year the registration fee is $35.00 per artist, and you may enter 3 pieces of art.

Please have your registrations and entry fees in by Sunday 23rd of August 2026.

Please pay $35 to:

  • CSA bank account number, 03 1568 0041379 00
(please put your NAME and AA2026 as reference), or

  • by eftpos at the Painting Place with same references.

Registration forms will be available at the Painting Place, online on our website and emailed out to you.

Completed Registration forms can be put into the box under the TV at the Painting Place or emailed to cambridgeartsociety2024@gmail.com on or before Sunday 23rd August 2026.  There is a maximum of 3 works per artist.

Triptych and diptychs are considered to be one work and must be able to be hung as one piece.  (Maximum size 1.5m square)

Each work must be ready for exhibition, complete with string/wire and D rings/picture triangles or eyes.  Screw in eyes must be within the frame.  Works without this will not be hung.  Frames purchased (from Briscoes, Warehouse) with a single metal hanger are not suitable.  You must have D rings added.  If you have previously had it on display on your wall you must ensure it is cleaned of dust and fly marks and made presentable for sale.

It is essential that the name of artist, price, title and medium is to be written on a tag, with the string long enough to hang over the top of the painting.  This is to help the hanging process.  Please contact Lynn or Joanna if you have queries about this.

Please sign your work — Anonymous work will not be hung.

Please note: Your artwork must be original, NO printed reproductions accepted.  They should not have been done in a workshop where there are multiple versions of the same picture, or completely under art instruction, or guided from a book or TV tutorial.  The painting must not infringe the NZ copyright law.  Copies of paintings greater than 50 years old (and therefore out of copyright) must state the original artist’s name and that the painting is a copy.

All media is acceptable, but photographs must be as a ‘limited edition’ and clearly labelled as such.  Pottery/sculpture entries must be set up by artist with own plinths coordinated by curator.

Works must not have been previously exhibited in one of our members’ only exhibitions or in our Autumn Festival Exhibitions.

The committee has the right to refuse entry of an art work.  Hanging and positioning of work is at the sole discretion of the Curator and once hung must not be moved.

You are responsible for your own insurance.  The Cambridge Art Society will take good care of your work in our hands but cannot be held responsible for theft or damage.

Please don’t undervalue your work.  Minimum price is $200.

There will be a 20% commission charged on the full price of all works sold.

All art work should be delivered to the Town Hall, between 9am and 10am on Thursday 3rd September.  (If it arrives later, it may not be hung.)  Please remove all bags/wrapping and take it away.  Wet work will not be accepted.  Please contact a committee member if you need early acceptance of your work.

Unsold works must be collected on Sunday 6th September after 4.30 pm from Town Hall.  You must get them signed out at the Registration Desk before taking them.  This is to safeguard your work.  No work can be taken prior to 4.30pm.

If you have any questions, please contact: Lynn Waters 0276884021 or email cambridgeartsociety2024@gmail.com

Registration is only available to Cambridge Society of Arts members.
