Carol Hughes

Late night soliloquy

Acrylic on canvas

Carole has a passion for colour and Fauve Art. The use of colours, the bold thick strokes and the naïve way of putting paint on canvas is a magical blend. Carole has exhibited throughout New Zealand. One of her paintings hangs in the Beehive and her canvases have travelled overseas.

Spring

acrylic on canvas

Spring and the large trees with their dark trunks and branches outside the Painting Place covered with blossoms of different shades of pink and bright green leaves, inspired this painting, in several layers of acrylic. I like to paint with acrylics and other media, inspired by familiar surroundings and imagination.

Shirley Melville

Mitre Peak

acrylic on canvas

I am mainly self-taught and have been painting for many years - mostly in acrylics. I painted this scene after a trip to the South Island, as it really appealed to me.

I am inspired by the scenery in our beautiful country.

Jared Milbank

Oak Arboretum, Cambridge

Acrylic on paper

I choose to paint places I have experienced firsthand that embody joy and manifest visual interest.

Here is the Oak Arboretum on the northern Cambridge green belt, providing cool pools of shade from the hot summer sun beating down on the soon-to-be-hay grasses and distant fields up Maungakawa.

Marian Raisbeck

Bambaugh Castle, Northumberland

oil on canvas

Bamburgh Castle Northumbria is a place I have visited twice in my homeland, which gave me the inspiration to paint it.

I am self-taught, and have tried many mediums, but my favourite medium is oils, I love the way they blend and move as each layer dries. I have exhibited my work, and I do commissions, and I enjoy each new challenge presented to me.

The Kea's Spectacular Landing

pastel on paper

For the last six years I have had a love affair with pastels.  I use a variety of types but mainly pastel pencils because of the detail that they allow me to achieve.  I always have a reference picture to guide me but my knowledge/experience now enables me to layer and blend to achieve a final piece that I am happy with. This piece has been professionally framed with UV non reflective glass. Size is 65 x 49cm.

Price $1300.

Huddle of hares

dry pastel on paper

I'm originally from the UK. I love NZ, but I really miss the wildlife of Europe. Hares sprinting through the grass were a wonder to me as a child. Now I find I'm keen to represent them creatively, in as many mediums as possible.
